Sofia Richie is the youngest daughter of Lionel and sister of Nicole. She’s rumored to have dated Justin Bieber and hangs out with the sisters Jenner and sisters Hadid.
She calls Paris Hilton a friend. But Sofia isn’t about talking about all of that at the moment. In a new interview with Complex, she and her handler nixed questions about these high-profile relationships, driving the conversation instead down a road that most 18-year-old models turned aspiring singers don’t usually go down: religion and—very briefly—the race-based treatment that she’s received in Los Angeles. On the latter topic, she says:
At 18 and without much creative output yet to her name, Richie hasn’t been the subject of too many profiles, but it’s still one of the few times she’s addressed the topic, both in terms of her “passing” as white and her comfort in speaking out against mistreatment. Richie’s faith was a persistent presence in the profile, a rare occurrence for pieces on young L.A. socialites and entertainers who aren’t Justin Bieber.
Her friend Bronte Blampied—who is not a Harry Potter character, but was linked to Bieber this summer around the same time that Richie was—was on-hand as well, and together they were quick to bring up the Bible. “Bronte and I were watching this Bible study the other day about loving your neighbor, and we felt that was really cool and important,” Richie said. “First of all, you need to love yourself, ’cause that’s the only way you’re going to get by and be O.K. as an individual.
But it’s important to make other people feel loved because you never know what they’re going through.”Richie signed off by driving home her point: she’s doesn’t plan on resting on her laurels, which have largely been built by her family, famous friends, and Bieber. “I actually really enjoy work ethic,” she explained.
